Ventura recently held ‘Creativity Week’ onboard which, as the name implies, aimed to bring out their ship’s company’s creative talent that they don’t see in their day-to-day business activities.

They asked people to participate in individual or group art projects involving drawing, painting, sculpture and design. 37 masterpieces were created in the crew’s own cabins, while group projects were done in a much larger space (using social distancing measures of course). Crew were given a week to complete these and once done they were asked to display their work in the Atrium.

Kathy Jones, Hotel General Manager on Ventura said: “During this Operational Pause period, naturally the added time on people hands was a concern from a mental health aspect. In conversation with Nurse Lyndsay we tossed ideas around wondering what we can do and the thought of having a means for the ship’s company to have a distraction and to express themselves would be good. We came up with ‘Creativity Week’ and quickly went into to overdrive to see what tools and ideas we can deliver – before we knew it the idea and was launched to all the crew”.

You can see their works of art in the video below:

John Val de la Cruz, HR Manager on Ventura said, “We were surprised about the number of entries submitted. It only goes to show that during these times we need to encourage our people to tap into their inner artists by creating a platform where their works are exhibited, shared and appreciated by a larger audience.”

Ventura’s Seafarers Welfare Committee also gave out prizes to recognise the best in both painting and sculpture works. Judged by Ventura’s onboard Senior Management Team, led by Captain Martyn Sharples, the winners were…

Overall winner – RYAN GARDOZE, Hotel Assistant No. 16
Sculpture runners up: ANDY GARBIN, First Carpenter, No 15; CHARLESTON MIRANDA, Receptionist, 24
Painting runners up – VADYN POGORILLY, Musician, No 21; JAHANGIR KABIR, Hotel Assistant No. 32

Congratulations to all the winners and it’s great to see how much talent is on board our ships!
