Aurora have been taking their crew wellbeing seriously by introducing physical exercise challenges each week to test their stamina, endurance and strength.

John Val de la Cruz, HRM, said: “As part of our wellbeing programme onboard, we wanted to keep them mentally strong by keeping their motivation to commit to their fitness plan. Here’s our programme in the last two weeks which Helen Gough (HRM) and myself designed together…”

  • Week 1 – Row to Le Havre Challenge. Crew were asked to sign up in pairs to beat 220Km distance from Weymouth, UK to reach Le Havre, France. Our winning pair, both hotel assistants, having rowed 278Km in total were Shalendra Gupta and Nikhil Kumar!
  • Week 2 – 200 Beast Burpee Challenge. Individual participation was required for this event where they needed to beat 200 burpees within an hour limit over four days. The competition was concluded with Hai Bang Lei, a Casino Dealer, completing 908 burpees in 240 minutes!
Dover 5k Fun Run – This was held on the quay side with 12 crew members taking part, mainly from Deck, Tech, and Galley Teams. Our 5k top finisher, Matt Mcmahon, 3rd Officer, recorded 19 minutes!

And they’re not stopping there – Aurora’s Seafarer Welfare Committee will be hosting more activities in the coming weeks such as a Table Tennis Shot Rally Challenge, 3 points shoot out challenge, and more.
