With some of our ships finding themselves with a surplus of fresh food intended for our Guests; we’re delighted that our people have been finding innovative ways to be true heroes of safe and well.
Ventura
After a brilliant team effort between ship and shore and some tricky logistics, Ventura donated an incredible 8.5 tonnes of fresh produce to UK Harvest. That’s the weight equivalent of almost five cars.
The teams on board quality checked every piece of fruit, vegetable and dairy item before they were loaded onto pallets ready for collection.
UK Harvest is a not-for-profit food rescue operation that re-distributes surplus food to charities, homeless centres, refuges and food banks, which have been particularly hard hit by COVID-19. They’ve since distributed our food across Bognor Regis, Portsmouth, Worthing and Brighton, as well as food banks in Eastbourne, Hastings, Crawley, Croydon and Southampton.

Britannia
Having missed her last call in Saint Lucia, where she was due to pick up fresh produce, Britannia instead donated the contents to the Saint Lucian authorities. In total, Britannia donated three containers of fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy supplies, which was distributed to charities and organisations all across the island.
The government were so taken aback by the gesture that they even sent a letter from the Prime Minister’s office:
“I wish to express on behalf of the government and people of Saint Lucia, our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your generosity and assistance towards our nation at this very challenging time.”
These are some fantastic examples of working Better Together to do the right thing by our environment and our communities.
