We’re proud of our flagship Britannia who lit up the skies of Southampton in support of our NHS, honouring everyone who’s working tirelessly to help those affected by COVID-19.
Britannia joined famous landmarks including Belfast City Hall, Principality Stadium in Cardiff and the London Eye as part of the Light it Blue salute, by lighting up cabin windows and sounding her horn to recognise all the doctors, nurses, carers, GPs, pharmacists, volunteers and all other NHS staff.
Across the rest of the country, people emerged from their homes to applaud NHS staff working on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic with people standing on their balconies and door steps, clapping and cheering for carers while vehicles sounded their horns at 8pm
Hotel Operations and Retail Senior Manager for P&O Cruises Guest Experience, Tom Driscoll witnessed the scenes whilst taking his daily exercise. He describes Britannia’s tribute:
“It was brilliant to be able to collaborate with the Britannia and the Guest Experience teams to deliver such an incredible appreciation of the NHS. As soon as 8.00pm struck and the Captain sounded the ship’s whistle, it was very emotional to hear so many of the crew members on their balconies as well as the local community cheering and clapping and I felt so proud to see us standing by our company values delivering such a strong external message as to how we respect the NHS teams and everything they are doing.”

Thank you to everyone ship and shore who displayed ‘determination and courage’ in order to make this gesture of thanks to our country’s healthcare heroes possible, creating a moment of happiness in difficult times, demonstrating that we really are, ‘Better Together’.
