As we continue to make progress in the set-up of our operation in China, I wanted to share the news that we have made our first local hire. Abby Si joined us on Monday 24 February, as a Project Assistant and will be part of the Contract Management Department.

Abby’s arrival is an important milestone for Corporate Shipbuilding and our presence in China, particularly given that she is our first local hire and indicates our ability to attract and recruit talent directly. Abby is also a native Chinese speaker which will be a huge asset to us.

Here’s some background information on Abby: she gained her degree in Economics from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, spending a total of eight years studying and working in Australia. She held a number of different roles during her time in Australia, the most recent role was as a Chartering & Operations Assistant for G2Ocean, a freight and logistics company, gaining experience in all aspects of admin related tasks.

We appreciate the evolving Coronavirus situation which may pose questions for our short-term resource plans. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely. The shipyard in China reopened on 10 February with high levels of activity now taking place. Our office, within the shipyard, remains closed due to the internal travel restrictions that are in place. Abby will be working from home until those travel restrictions are lifted.

In the coming months, the team will grow further and you will start to see opportunities coming up, so if you are interested in working in Shanghai, send your CV to our Resourcing Team at ccs.resourcing@carnivalukgroup.com. We will look to share vacancies as they arise and will make further people announcements as these are filled.

Thanks and I look forward to sharing more news about China in the near future.
