Last month I had my third trip to visit the Carnival Support Services India (CSSI) team in Mumbai. CSSI are India’s largest crewing agency managing c22k Indian crew across eight Carnival brands. A 100% subsidiary of Carnival Plc, provides services to Carnival Group companies only.

This visit was even more exciting as it was also our first face to face meeting of the CSSI Cross Brand Forum. The forum is made up of the decision makers from each of the Carnival Corporation brands that work with CSSI (all bar AIDA). Prasad Hariharan, CSSI Managing Director, and I created the forum to leverage the opportunity to be more efficient in our crew lifecycle process across Carnival Corporation. Following the success of this event we will meet quarterly with an annual f2f in Mumbai.

There were two key areas of focus for our November session: Firstly, improving our footprint across India; in 2019 over 73% of the recruitments carried out by CSSI across the Carnival brands were from the Western and Southern regions of India.

Secondly, improving Indian female crew ratio on board; Currently only 3% of our Indian complement are female across the Carnival brands.

We agreed a number of actions and I look forward to seeing a positive change in the coming months.

I took over the role of CEO for CSSI from Simon Flower on 1 May this year, from my first visit to Mumbai in February the CSSI team have inspired me with their happiness, enthusiasm and dedication to delivering the best for their stakeholders. It’s an honour to work with them and I’m already looking forward to my next visit in February when I hope to extend my stay and get to see a little more of India than a hotel room and the office.
