Sport has an amazing power to bring people together. Following and taking part can give us community, energy and a sense of belonging. But 4 in 10 LGBT people don’t think sport is welcoming.
At Carnival we’re committed to building an inclusive community where people can bring their whole selves to work and they feel that they belong. That’s why we’re a Stonewall Diversity Champion, working to ensure that all LGBT colleagues are accepted without exception at Carnival UK.
Through Spectrum, your LGBT+ & Friends employee-led network, and Shipmates, your sports and social club, we’re supporting #RainbowLaces, Stonewall’s campaign for LGBT inclusion in sport and physical activity.
Wear your Rainbow Laces and show you care
Our people enjoy taking part in and watching all manner of sports from football and cricket, to running and rugby. With many events organised and run by Shipmates, they are generously supporting #RainbowLaces by funding 50% of each rainbow laces purchase for Shipmates members – that’s just £3 to show your support for equality in sport.
Support for the campaign is driven by Spectrum, Carnival UK’s LGBT+ & Friends employee-led network. Kate Johnston, Spectrum co-lead, said;
Everyone should feel free to be themselves. As an inclusive organisation, we want people to show their support for their LGBT+ colleagues and the wider LGBT+ community. By wearing rainbow laces we’re making a proud statement that Carnival UK welcomes everyone exactly as they are.”
