We live in a world that is changing. An aging population. Increasing diversity. More shared living than ever before. An increasing desire to treat people with equity. Sound about right to you? How do we know?
The straightforward answer is ‘data’. The organisations you interact with are constantly learning about who you are and what you do. They use this data to:
- Tailor their products, services or messaging specifically for you
- Understand more about what people like you want and need now and in the future
So why am I telling you all this?
It is really helpful for your employer to know some of this stuff too! We want to be able to tailor your employee experience, and have a better understanding of what people just like you really value and need. We want to check that our business practices are not obstructing the progress of any group or resulting in a bad experience in the workplace. We can only do that if you declare this information.
The best place to do that is in myHR Portal, where you can record ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and marital status. This information is secured so that only HR Specialists and HR Analysts can access it – your line manager will not be able to see your responses, for example.
How to update my details in myHR Portal
- log in to myHR portal (you’ll find this in the ‘quick links’ drop down menu at the top of this page)
- on the home page, click on ‘personal information’ icon
- click on ‘personal details’ box
- in ‘Demographic info’ section, click on pencil to edit
- update ethnicity, religion, gender identity and marital status (sexual orientation is not currently available in the new version of myHR Portal)
- click submit to save changes
We also have demographic questions on the Quarterly Pulse survey – gender, age, nationality and, for the first time, if you identify as having a disability or long term health condition. This survey is anonymous, so we cannot tell which response is you and are very careful with who gets to see that data. The Pulse survey will be going live on Wednesday 25 September.
So, still think you have nothing to declare? Take the opportunity this National Inclusion Week to tell us all about you. The only way we can make this an even more amazing place to work is to have a better understanding of who we are doing it for.
