When Oriana met with Canberra off the coast of Cannes in 1997, near the end of Canberra’s final cruise, Oriana received one of the most prestigious honours a P&O Cruises ship can receive – the Golden Cockerel.

The Golden Cockerel trophy is awarded to the fastest ship in the P&O Cruises fleet, which Canberra had received from the previous Oriana, when Canberra achieved over 29 knots during the sea trails of 1961.

As the fastest ship in the fleet at the time, Oriana achieved a speed in excess of 26 knots during the sea trials in 1995.

With the departure of Oriana from the P&O Cruises fleet, the Golden Cockerel has now been bestowed upon Aurora who achieved a speed of 25.7 knots in April this year.
