Our 2019 Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) Presidents’ video, starring Josh Weinstein, Paul Ludlow and Simon Palethorpe is now live.
We need everyone, both ship and shoreside to watch this video, so please click the play button below.
In this video Josh, Paul and Simon refer to ‘Operations Oceans Alive’, an environmental compliance and commitment program launched last year. Oceans Alive is a call to action for every one of us to care of and protect our oceans, seas and waterways from environmental harm ensuring ecosystems, plant life and aquatic animals thrive, both now and in the future.
Here’s a reminder of the key points:
- Our environmental compliance plan means that each and every one of us is responsible for preventing and reducing any risk of environmental pollution. It also means that you need to speak up if you see or think something is wrong, and report all near misses.
- In a committed culture people do the right thing not because they have to, but because they want to – and this is exactly how we should approach our ECP.
- At Carnival UK we have a goal – to evolve our whole HESS culture from compliance to commitment. And we’ll achieve it through our constant drive to keep our Guests, colleagues and the environment safe and well.
We’ve made some good progress so far in 2019 by…
- Removing balloons on board and in Carnival House as well as sail away flags on ships
- Replacing many of the current single use plastic containers for jams, spreads, sauces, yoghurts etc. with alternatives such as small glass pot
- Reducing the use of cling film and introducing a blue tinted film that’s specially made for Carnival UK and much easier to spot – Queen Elizabeth is even trailing the removal of cling film altogether
To help us all be Heroes of Safe and Well and consider the environment we’ve also launched our Golden Rules – a simple set of rules to help us all continue to be aware, communicate and take appropriate actions in day-to-day working situations, whether on board or ashore. These have been rolled out to the fleet over the past few months and will be launched shoreside in October.
But there’s always more we can do!
