In support of World Environment Day (5 June) and World Oceans Day (today) all this week, we’re highlighting ways you can be a HESS Hero and help us look after the world we live in.
Last year we launched Operations Oceans Alive, a call to action for all employees to care for and protect our oceans, seas, and waterways from environmental harm ensuring their ecosystems, plant life and aquatic animals thrive, both now and in the future.
Operation Oceans Alive is about doing more than just complying with rules and regulations. It means going beyond compliance and committing to do the right thing, all the time, every time.
We want to achieve a higher level of environmental awareness and instill a strong culture of environmental care – that means each and every one of us needs to take responsibility for our environment.

Here’s a reminder of a few key takeaways:
- Our environmental compliance plan means that each and every one of us is responsible for preventing and reducing any risk of environmental pollution. It also means that you need to speak up if you see or think something is wrong, and report all near misses.
- In a committed culture people do the right thing not because they have to, but because they want to – and this is exactly how we should approach our ECP.
- At Carnival UK we have a goal – to evolve our whole HESS culture from compliance to commitment. And we’ll achieve it through our constant drive to keep our Guests, colleagues and the environment safe and well.
