Over the last couple of years we’ve welcomed a small group of graduates in to Carnival UK. Well, we thought we’d catch up with some of them to see how they’re getting on, so here are our some of our Finance cohort….

Not knowing much about the cruise ship industry I applied because it seemed interesting. After coming down for the assessment centre and learning more about the company, I knew this would be a great place to learn and develop. Having studied Economics at university I knew I wanted to work in Finance and that I wanted to work in industry rather than practice.
It’s been great to work in a variety of different areas inside of Finance and for the last 9 months I’ve been working on the EOS project, helping to develop the new system. We’re hoping to go live later on this year and it’ll be great to see EOS being rolled out.

I’d cruised with Princess previously and I’d heard of Carnival and P&O cruises before, but I’d never made the connection until I stumbled across Carnival’s graduate programme. The thought of working in Finance, something I know and love, for a holiday company, contributing to happiness and welfare, really sold it for me.
My biggest highlight by far has been the people. Every day I work with supportive, encouraging and motivated people which makes coming to work a whole lot easier. In addition to this I have made friends for life, due to the support of Carnival, Finance have been able to take on several graduates which has meant we have a whole support network when it comes to socialising and studying for our qualifications.

I felt that the finance graduate scheme provided an excellent opportunity to gain a wide range of knowledge, skills and exposure to different situations within a finance function due to the nature of the rotations.
The learning curve for both of my first two rotations has felt huge and it’s something I struggled with at first, it almost feels as if you are completely starting again each time due to the short 6 month rotations. With the help of my peers and management I have however become better at dealing with this and using the resources around me to ensure that I am confidant and capable in completing my role.

Although I don’t have an accounting degree, I took several finance-related modules at University and I really enjoyed it. After that, I knew that this is something I want to do in my future. Moreover, Finance is a very important part of any business – it is a life blood for any company and a Finance team must monitor a company’s health. Therefore, I wanted to be part of that and contribute to the success of the company.
My advice to future graduates would be to be open, enthusiastic and don’t be afraid to ask people questions. There are great people in Carnival who are always happy to help and share their knowledge and experience. They will inspire and motivate you to self-develop and pursue your goals.
