Here at Carnival UK we’re dedicated to supporting our people and looking after everyone’s wellbeing. As Mental Health Awareness Week continues, it’s a great opportunity to review our stress levels and ensure we have good mental health.

We’re also proud to launch our brand new Stress Management Workshop to help our people managers to support their teams – managers can sign up for the Stress Management Workshop below.

Stress is something that’s normally viewed in a negative way. But stress can be good. It can motivate us and encourage us to do better. It can create an opportunity for creativity and growth.

However, if our stress levels become too high, we can feel overwhelmed, our heart might start racing and we might feel anxious, irritable and have trouble concentrating. When stress makes us feel like this, and when we continue with high levels of stress, it can affect our health, causing headaches, sleep problems and tiredness.

Top tips for managing your stress levels

  • Talk about it to friends, family or colleagues
  • Spend more time on hobbies or exercise, things that you enjoy
  • Check you are eating healthily and not drinking too much alcohol
  • Try to accept the things you cannot change
  • Take time out to relax or try mindfulness
  • Take a break or a holiday

What should I do if I am feeling under pressure or stressed at work?

We’re here to help you through periods of pressure and stress. If you’re feeling overwhelmed at work, there’s a number of ways we can support you:

  • Arrange to talk to your manager about your concerns as soon as possible. Colleagues on board can also speak to their HR Manager.
  • Consider contacting your Employee Assistance Programme helpline for support – find out more about the shore and ship services here.
  • You may wish to see your GP or use Carnival UK’s occupational health service if you feel your health is being affected – speak to your manager if you’d like to be referred to occupational health.
  • Colleagues on board can visit the medical centre during clinic times to receive support from the medical team.
  • Ships’ company should make use of the on-board activities and facilities – visit the gym, request time to go ashore, take a walk out on deck, visit the lounge, and talk to your friends and family.
