Work on Iona is now well underway at Meyer Werft’s Papenburg yard in Germany. Hundreds of engineers are building the steel blocks in two giant buildings that are then lifted into place to create the ship – much like a giant Lego set! As the blocks are slotted together, the profile of Iona is becoming more and more recognisable.
One of the key areas that is rapidly becoming a reality is SkyDome, the glass-covered pool and entertainment area on deck 16. Already, the pool and two whirlpool spas are recognisable on the top of the block as it waits to be lifted into position. Work on the oval SkyDome roof has also begun; just outside the building where Iona is being built.
