red carpet – Olivier Awards 2019

This award recognises a theatre performance that has returned to the stage and captured the audiences’ imagination – the Olivier was awarded to “Summer And Smoke”. The Tennessee Williams’ production, which closed in January 2019, stunned audiences with its spell-binding, stripped back staging at London’s West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre.

Cunard’s very own Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge and co presenter actor Danny Dyer, gave the award to Summer and Smoke director Rebecca Frecknall who said that of the five awards Summer and Smoke were nominated for, Cunard’s Best Revival was the award they were keen to win the most!

Summer and Smoke took home two of the five awards they had been nominated for, including ‘Best Actress’, awarded to Patsy Ferran. Find out more about all of the winners here. The full awards ceremony is available to watch on ITV Hub now.
