Back in November, about 30 of us had the opportunity to take part in an event hosted by Corporation CEO Arnold Donald and his leadership team in Orlando. We all committed to share our experiences in reflecting about the themes shared there (see Hannah Leach’s blog too). I’ve been thinking about inclusion and curiosity.

Inclusion for me means welcoming people who don’t act like us or me. How lucky we are as a company to have so much diversity and so we have the opportunity to listen to each other and our Guests to understand more.

The event message was about whether it be someone who thinks like a magician, someone who is a little rebellious, curious, who thinks and feels differently. It’s okay to feel ‘uncomfortable’ with that at times. We should try to turn mistakes/failings into a source of inspiration. Build teams, colleagues and friends around us who are diverse in type and thinking.

So it led me to think “how can I broaden my interests and have days where I keep saying to myself ‘why’, ‘what if’ and ‘how might we’ more?”

An example of this is when I recently booked a zip wire experience for my Husband Keith and his son and I thought to myself, Paula you should push yourself to do this. I was scared and it would have been easy to say I will watch from the viewing platform with a glass of wine. However I decided to make myself feel ‘uncomfortable’ and do it.

And it was truly wonderful…recommend it to you all!

Trying to continue to do this both at work, home and will endeavour to continue this thought into my retirement from this wonderful company…..
