P&O Cruises new TV advert featuring an array of unforgettable experiences in the Arabian Gulf airs for the first time on prime TV tonight!
P&O Cruises has a clear ambition, ‘To become Britain’s number one holiday choice’. In order to achieve this ambition P&O Cruises must broaden its appeal to a new type of Guest.
The TV advert titled ‘Souvenirs’ kick starts a new creative direction for the P&O Cruises brand. It paints a picture of a more authentic travel experience that allows holiday makers to immerse themselves in the local culture, natural beauty and fascinations of the Arabian Peninsula region – celebrating an enriching travel experience many may not readily associate with a cruise holiday.
The new campaign ‘Souvenirs’ seeks to connect with a new segment of British holidaymakers that the brand hasn’t spoken to before – people looking for more enriching travel experiences than the usual ‘fly and flop’ holidays, but who haven’t yet considered a cruise.
Still featuring Rob Brydon’s character Huw and his fictional wife Jenny, the film is shot in beautiful Oman, as part of the Dubai and Arabian Gulf itinerary. The output is a very deliberate ‘filmic’ style that seeks to involve the viewer in a travel experience that is rich with exoticism and cultural diversity.

From haggling with the local market owners, off-roading on desert dunes, playing football with the local children, scuba-diving with turtles and exploring architecturally striking mosques, the film oozes with local culture and the stunning experiences to be enjoyed off the ship.

In favour of something that feels more reflective and original, Rob Brydon’s character Huw, reveals a slightly more serious side compared to previous adverts. The film also features the music track ‘Dreams’ by the Cranberries. The song’s subject matter and stirring self-harmonies by the late Dolores O’Riordan underscore the indelible emotions and memories that travel can induce.
Paul Ludlow, President, P&O Cruises, comments:
” We offer much more than just a holiday. Our cruises are a chance to experience something out of the ordinary, and live the good life. Our new advert is a departure from the space we usually play in, and we are speaking to those who would not typically consider a cruise holiday. It was important for us to challenge tired stereotypes and highlight some of the experiences that people have no idea are available through cruising.”
The new TV ad will be rolled out with 30 and 40 second versions across ITV 1, 2, 3 & 4, Channel 4 and Sky from today. There will also be a longer 90 second version used in digital channels.
