Global Recycling Day first started in 2018 to help recognise and celebrate the importance recycling plays in protecting our precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet. It’s a day for the world to come together and put the planet first, something we’re committed to through our Ocean’s Alive programme.

As part of Global Recycling Day, we’re starting an ecobricks collection at Carnival House.

An ecobrick is a plastic bottle (we’re collecting all bottle sizes) packed to a set density with used, clean and dry plastic to achieve a building block that can be used over and over again. Ecobricks keep plastic out of the environment and are used to make modular furniture, garden spaces, walls and even full-scale buildings.

Here’s our top tips for making your ecobrick:

  • All plastic must be clean and dry
  • Your finished ecobrick must be as hard a a brick! Test it by (carefully) standing on it
  • The minimum bottle weight must be 0.33g/ml. That’s 83g for a 250ml bottle, 165g for a 500ml bottle, 330g for a 1l bottle and 660g for a 2l bottle

Our ecobrick collection starts in the Atrium on Global Recycling Day – 18 March 2019 – but you can start making them today! To learn how to make an ecobrick, watch the video below. You can also read more here.

We’re donating our ecobricks to a local ecobricks collection point – if you’d like us to donate to one in particular, email their details to internal.comms@carnivalukgroup.com
