This month we are celebrating LGBT+ History month and on Wednesday 20th February we were lucky to have a visit from Joanne Lockwood, founder of ‘See the Change’ and advocate for transgender awareness.

At Carnival UK, we are passionate about building an inclusive and diverse team, and understand the value of creating an environment that allows everyone to feel comfortable, welcomed and accepted.

By sharing her story, Joanne stressed the importance of believing in yourself and supported our passion for celebrating our differences in life and in the workplace. Her experiences highlighted the difficulties that transgender people in particular can have at work and how important it is to have an inclusive environment for everyone.

The ‘Love Has No Labels’ video was shown at the end of her talk to remind us that #Loveislove and to celebrate our diversity and differences. Watch the moving film for yourself by clicking the image below.

Joanne Lockwood is currently featuring in Channel 4’s eight part documentary series ‘ Making of Me’ airing every Monday night at 10pm. Filmed over three years, the series reveals the physical transformations of nine people who are changing their gender, and how they and their families come to terms with it. Don’t forget to tune in or catch up on 4OD.

If you have any feedback or suggestions that encourage inclusivity at Carnival UK, or would like to find out more about our LGBT committee, Spectrum, email Laura Terry or Tom Driscoll. You can also follow all activity by subscribing to Spectrum @ Carnival UK on Facebook.
