Carnival UK is on a journey to improve our HESS culture from compliance to commitment. Over the past 12 months you will have seen some initiatives to help us on this journey, including our HESS vision film and the upgrade of our Safety Feedback stations to HESS Feedback stations.  These tools have made it easier for you to have your say and have your voice heard – easier to ‘Speak Up’.

We’ve received over 80 Bright Ideas from both ship and shore colleagues since the launch last summer – a number of which have already been actioned. All ideas are reviewed on individual ships and shoreside to see if the ideas and initiatives can be implemented across the fleet, shoreside or both!

On a journey to improve our HESS culture – from compliance to commitment…

During 2019 we’ll be building on last year’s success and introducing the HESS Golden Rules to help colleagues continue to be aware, communicate and take appropriate actions in day-to-day working situations, whether on board or ashore. The Golden Rules are split into four segments colleagues should consider in all their decisions and actions – Do It Right, Speak Up, Take Care and Ready to Go.

The initiatives from last year have allowed us to Speak Up and we want to build on this. The Golden Rules will help us reduce the risk of incidents and increase the number of near-miss reports, which will help us all work better together.

More information about the Golden Rules, and what they mean for you will be available over the coming weeks and months including ship theatre talks for our ships’ company.

As Heroes of Safe and Well, you are contributing to moving our HESS culture from compliance to commitment and the Golden Rules will help us to all be committed to HESS and achieve our goal of a commitment culture.

We’re enormously proud of how our HESS culture is embedding into our ways of working, both across the fleet and in Carnival House. We want to ensure that we are leading a working environment committed to the Health, Environment, Safety and Security of our Guests, colleagues, vessels and the places we work and visit.
