There have been some great submissions recently for HESS Hero nominations and Bright Ideas, which is fantastic, as each one moves us that little bit closer to our ultimate goal of a committed HESS culture.

All nominations and ideas are reviewed and discussed within our HESS Working Group along with further input from our HESS leads in Health, Environment, Safety and Security. We’re pleased to reveal the winners for November & December below:

HESS Hero
November – Sue Reed
If you have recently joined the company it can be a daunting prospect if you don’t get the information you need on day one. What you need is a HESS hero to help – Sue Reed. Sue makes sure new joiners in her department get the HESS information needed when they join, demonstrating how important HESS is to the organisation. We have a responsibility to provide specific HESS information to our people when they join the organisation so remember to use the New Joiners checklist for all new starters – you can find this within the Ask HR page on the Bridge.

December – Kate Whitehead & Liz Foyle (nominated by the HESS Committee)
During December you would have seen a couple of festively decorated blue containers. If you didn’t have a look, these containers were holding donations made by our people in order to support those who may be forgotten about at Christmas or just need some extra support. Liz Foyle and Kate Whitehead are behind all the arrangements for this and they have been doing this for several years now and each year it gets more and more popular. We felt it was only right they were recognised for their efforts so they will be receiving a bottle of fizz shortly.

HESS Bright Idea
November – Andy Gordon
Andy will tell you himself that he loves being a First Aider and recently has been arranging group sessions for all the Carnival UK First Aiders. One of these sessions is going to include the training for Andy’s Bright Idea – a defibrillator at Carnival House. Andy told us a defibrillator “could save us precious minutes in an emergency situation and potentially could be the difference in saving a life”, the idea was so popular it is being implemented as you read this.

December – Paul Wilkinson
You may have seen in previous a Weekly Round-up our communication on the use of mobile phones on the balconies in order to avoid serious injuries. Paul Wilkinson is the man to thank for this, as it was his Bright Idea to have signs on the balconies advising us not to lean over. This will help us all to remain safe at Carnival House. (Remember it is not just mobile phones – please don’t hold anything over the balconies that could be dropped!)

Please do keep your Bright Ideas and nominations coming; all ideas are reviewed and many of them are being worked through, whether they are a  monthly winner or not. If you asked for feedback on your idea, we will keep you up to date with any progress made.

Remember you have the power to make a difference; keep reporting near misses, submitting your HESS Hero nominations and Bright Ideas.
