Finding calm in a stressful world

While we all react differently to stressful situations, Covid-19 is the sole topic of conversation on our phones, TV screens and social media. It’s hard to escape. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. In this article we share some things you can do to help find calm during this time and be your own hero of safe and well.

Maintaining a healthy mind in times of uncertainty

As ‘heroes of safe and well’, we must all do our bit to ensure that we take care of our own wellbeing. With so much focus on the potential threats to our physical health, it’s important to take care of our mental wellbeing, especially as so many of us navigate change. In this article we share our top tips to help you take care of your mental health, reduce feelings of isolation, and feel connected.

Action for Happiness – 30 day challenge 

Action for Happiness is an international movement, committed to creating more happiness in the world, providing ideas and resources to encourage people to take action at home, at work or in their community. They’ve created an Active Coping Calendar with daily actions to help us look after ourselves and each other as we face this global crisis together.

The calendar is available in 18 different languages thanks to the generosity of volunteer translators from around the world.

Meaningful Calendar – 31 day challenge 

The world may be in crisis but Action for Happiness are helping us respond with a sense of purpose and meaning. They’ve created a Meaningful May Calendar with daily actions to help us look after ourselves, and each other, as we face this global crisis together. The calendar features 31 simple ways to keep calm, stay wise and be kind.

Redundancy: Managing your Mental Health

Ashore consultation has begun and regrettably a significant number of roles have been placed at risk of redundancy. We don’t need to tell you that being at risk of losing your job can bring many pressures and financial worries. Supporting you during consultation – managing change webinars  SIGN UP – spaces available

Our Learning & Development team have developed a series of webinars and briefing events which will be delivered over the coming weeks. From highly practical sessions covering topics such as financial wellbeing and planning, to resilience and mental health, these webinars and online resources are designed to provide you with support when dealing with emotional and personal responses to change. 

We’re also rolling out mental health training …

In addition to resources available to you we’re also rolling our training to equip our leaders and those involved in wellbeing work streams to be able to support the wellbeing of our people ship and shore. Training courses include;

Managing pressure & wellbeing conversations

A 60 minute session led by HR Managers for all Managers onboard. The session focuses on equipping leaders to be able to support their team members with managing pressure and improving their wellbeing.

A guide to wellbeing daily calls

Guidance for formulating questions and leading discussion for individuals making daily wellbeing calls to ship’s company completing quarantine.

Mental Health First Aid Awareness

A half day course (four hours) aimed to increase awareness of mental health, help to identify
potential deterioration in mental wellbeing and how to provide support.

This week (18 -24 May) has been Mental Health Awareness Week, an annual event hosted by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). This years theme is kindness.
