Women’s History Month is observed annually around the world from 1-31 March. It is an extension of International Women’s Day, which has been celebrated since the early 1900s.
More than a century later, women around the world are still fighting for equality. Women’s History Month is an opportunity for us celebrate and learn about the achievements women have made and highlight the issues they continue to face. This year’s theme is: Celebrating women who tell our stories
Women from across different cultures will also have their own unique stories and perspectives which can be invaluable.
On International Women’s Day (8 March), Athena and REACH will host a colleague panel discussion, talking to the unique challenges that women face in their respective cultures.
We hope you can join us at 11:45 in The Atrium. Save the event to your diary.
Women in maritime history – rewriting the narrative
Women have largely been excluded from the maritime history narrative, creating a misperception that women are ‘new’ to shipping, or that their past contributions have not been significant or meaningful.
This Women’s History Month, why not read more about the ‘Rewriting women into maritime history project’. An initiative that highlights the activities undertaken by women in shipping over the past few centuries, with an aim to identify and place accounts of women in the shipping industry, into the public domain for the first time.
Here at Carnival UK, we’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and that they belong. We become better versions of ourselves and do better work when we’re curious, open-minded, and accepting of others and their ideas.
Our Employee Led Networks (ELNs) are set up by our colleagues. They have the full support of the business, but ultimately, they’re by employees, for employees.
Athena is passionate about equal opportunities for people – regardless of gender. We raise visibility of gender issues and invite everyone to join the conversation, by doing this, we work with the business to influence meaningful change in the workplace and inspire progress. Find out more about the network, here
REACH, our newest network, is about elevating and uplifting colleagues from different racial, ethnic and cultural heritage backgrounds. When “Embracing Equity” (this year’s International Women’s Day theme) it’s important we look to how we can elevate all women, and advocate for intersectionality in the workplace. REACH welcomes anyone who supports our aims and is interested in gaining a greater understanding of issues related to ethnicity and cultural heritage. Find out more.
