Vaccination Information

Depending on the countries you visit throughout your tour of duty/assignment, you may need vaccinations to ensure your safety at sea. You will need to provide proof of these vaccinations to your Global Talent Partner (GTP) or CUK Compliance Consultant before embarking and you must carry proof of evidence or immunity with you. 

If you’ve sailed with us before, you might have already submitted this proof. Check your Joining Instructions email or contact your Global Talent Partner (GTP) for confirmation. 


Hepatitis A

This vaccine requirement is role-specific and applies exclusively to seafarers assigned to the Riding Team who carry out Tank Cleaning duties only. In alignment with corporate HESS policy, If you are assigned to this role, you must receive a the Hepatitis A vaccination to support your health and safety during high-risk operations onboard.

The first dose must be administered at least 14 days before joining your assigned ship, while the second dose should ideally be given 6 to 12 months after the first dose and must be administered at least 14 days before joining. If the second dose is delayed beyond 12 months, it should still be administered as soon as possible without restarting the series. Once both doses are completed, the vaccine provides up to 25 years of immunity. Please note that the vaccine is not available onboard and must be obtained prior to joining.

Globally, the Hepatitis A vaccine is widely accessible through travel clinics, pharmacies, and local doctors or GP practices, making it convenient to arrange your vaccination regardless of location.

Mumps, Measles and Rubella (MMR)

As a seafarer, you are required to be vaccinated against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), and you must provide valid evidence of this vaccination or proof of immunity through a blood test result. The MMR vaccine typically consists of two doses, with the second dose administered at least 28 days after the first. If you are unsure of your vaccination status or cannot locate your records, your first step should be to contact your GP or medical examiner to either confirm your immunisation history or arrange an immunity blood test.

If your immunity is insufficient or you have not received both doses, you will need to complete the full vaccination course. You can arrange this through your GP, a travel clinic, or a participating pharmacy these services are widely available across the UK and internationally.

Please note that the MMR vaccine is not administered onboard, so it must be obtained before joining your assigned ship. If you need further support, reach out to your Global Talent Partner (GTP) or CUK Compliance Consultant.

Typhoid

This vaccine requirement is role-specific and applies exclusively to crew members assigned to Riding Team who carry out Tank Cleaning duties only. In alignment with corporate HESS policy, If you are assigned to this role, you must receive a Typhoid vaccination to support your health and safety during high-risk operations onboard. The vaccination must be administered at least 14 days prior to you joining the ship to ensure adequate protection and compliance with deployment timelines.

Depending on which type of vaccine you receive (injection or oral) it will provide 3 or 5 years protection. After this period a new vaccine will be required. Please note that the vaccine is not available onboard and must be obtained prior to joining.

Polio

As part of your compliance journey, it is essential to understand and meet the polio vaccination requirements when joining a ship in either Morocco or Egypt. These requirements are based on international health regulations and national entry protocols, and they vary depending on your embarkation location and travel history.

Joining in Morocco

  • If you are joining a ship in Morocco and have recently been in a polio-affected country, you must be vaccinated against polio:
  • Timing: The vaccine must be administered at least 4 weeks prior to entry and within the last 12 months.
  • Accepted Vaccines: Either the oral polio vaccine (bOPV) or the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) is acceptable.
  • Documentation: You must carry an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) as proof

Joining in Egypt

  • Egypt enforces stricter requirements for polio vaccination:
  • Mandatory for All: Regardless of your age or previous vaccination status, you must present proof of polio vaccination.
  • Accepted Vaccines: A dose of bOPV or IPV is required.
  • Documentation: This must be recorded in an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) issued within the previous 12 months and at least 4 weeks before departure.
  • Applies to Specific Countries: This requirement is mandatory for travelers from the following polio-affected countries: Afghanistan, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Somalia Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Niger, Philippines.

Yellow Fever

You must have a yellow fever vaccination before joining any of the below cruise itineraries. 

You must present the original International Yellow Fever certificate known as the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) when boarding your ship as proof of vaccination.

As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), if you have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever, you are covered for life and so you won’t need a further vaccination. We may ask for evidence of this inoculation for our records.
