Our amazing colleagues on board our ships work so hard to create unforgettable holiday happiness for our guests, so we’re taking a moment to shine a spotlight on them! Continuing our Holiday Heroes series, find out what makes them shine, hear about their roles, ambitions, hobbies, and what life is like working aboard our P&O Cruises ships.

Next up meet… Roberto Tanjer, Florist onboard Ventura.

Roberto Tanjer has been the florist on board Ventura for three years. As the only florist working on board, he is a busy man, and every day looks different. From creating personal bouquets for guests to arranging flowers for the Ceremonies at Sea team and making sure the atrium is always stocked with fresh, beautiful arrangements, Roberto takes great pride in his work.

Each day I prepare flower arrangements for different parts of the ship. I prepare big arrangements for the atrium and two for the Reception and Loyalty and Cruise Sales desks. I also prepare smaller ones for guests; arrangements that people order. I mostly work alone and have free rein to design the flowers however I want. I deliver them myself.

My favourite part of the job is when the guests give me a smile for my arrangement. That makes me very happy. I just prepared a bouquet for a wedding, and I was very proud when the bride told me how much she loved it.

Being onboard gives me the opportunity to travel and my favourite destination to visit is Madeira. The climate is similar to the climate in Manila in the Philippines, where I am from. Not too hot, not too cold. Manila has a nice ambience.

When I’m at home, I like to spend time with my family, catching up and cooking together. I cook kare kare. It’s a stew made with pork, beef and sometimes chicken, cooked in a rich peanut sauce. I cook it for the whole family.

When I have time off onboard, I like to spend it with my friends just chatting and relaxing. Sometimes we go to The Beach House and have a kebab. Sometimes we see a show at the theatre. And since I’m good at cutting flowers, sometimes my friends on board ask me to cut their hair for them!”

Thank you Roberto for sharing your story with us!
