My team’s performance and appraisal

We’re focused on driving a performance-led culture, creating the conditions for us to deliver the best possible outcomes for the business. We do that by being clear on expectations and priorities, putting collective success ahead of personal agendas, and holding ourselves and others to account for our results. It also means empowering our teams to do their best work through support and challenge in equal measure.

As a people manager it’s your responsibility to support us in driving a performance-led culture by completing the performance framework for each team member during their tour of duty. 

We want everyone to feel connected and inspired to reach their full potential and perform at their best every day. Our performance framework sets clear expectations and/or goals/objectives for people during their tour with support to them to meet them. At end-of-tour reviews, ratings reflect and recognise tour performance, helping colleagues better understand where further development is needed or what career progression opportunities are available

We have aligned with the rest of Carnival Corporation and moved from a five-point rating scale to a universal three-point scale for performance ratings. During end-of-tour reviews everyone will be awarded an individual overall performance rating from the three-point scale below.

Achieves performance expectations consistently. Accomplishes the right results with the right behaviors. A reliable contributor to the team and Carnival UK.

Significantly exceeds performance expectations with broad impact. Drives exceptional results and models the right behaviors.


The Performance Culture Toolkit contains methods that you can use to boost individual and team performance at each stage of the Performance Framework. Many of these tools are taken from Leadership & Management Essentials Level 1.

If your tour ends before your team member, give a clear handover to your replacement. Remember to give any feedback about underperformance or high achievement directly to your team member before handover to your replacement.
