IMPORTANT: Electronic travel authorisations (ETAs) and declarations (ETDs)
Electronic travel authorisations (ETAs) and declarations (ETDs) are likely to become more common in the future. Many countries are adopting ETAs and ETDs to enhance security and streamline the entry process for visitors. Because countries are introducing this electronic process at different timeframes, it’s important that you check with your Global Talent Partner / Crew Compliance team what requirements exist in your destination for your nationality.
Entry Visa or Travel documents required prior to your travel
Please check with your Global talent partner/ Crew Compliance team what visa or travel documents you need for your entry in Malta.

Do I need a visa to transit through the UK?
No. While certain nationalities do require a visa to enter the UK, seafarers transiting through the UK to join or leave one of our ships may be eligible for a temporary visa exemption known as Transit Without a Visa (TWOV), provided they hold a Bermudan ID Card or another approved Seafarer’s Identity Document. Carnival UK, or your Global Talent Partner, will confirm which document type you need to ensure travel compliance.
If you experience any issues at flight check‑in, please present the UK Home Office Requirements for Seafarers Travelling to/transiting the UK document along with the Carrier Liability Guidance document to the airline staff and explain that you are travelling as a seafarer on duty—either joining a vessel or returning home, particularly in the context of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) Scheme.
