As Britannia made her long-awaited return to Iceland this summer, Captain Matt Nicholls and the ship’s Senior Management Team took the opportunity to strengthen connections with key partners across the country.

During calls to Reykjavik, Ísafjörður and Akureyri, the team participated in a series of plaque exchange ceremonies, a longstanding maritime tradition that recognises the connection between visiting ships and their host ports. Representatives from each port, including Harbour Masters, Port Agents and local tourism and marketing professionals, joined the ceremonies to mark Britannia’s visit and celebrate the close working relationships between Carnival UK and Iceland’s port communities.

The exchanges provided an opportunity to thank local partners for their support in welcoming guests and crew, while recognising the important role they play in delivering memorable visits ashore. They also helped strengthen collaboration ahead of future visits, supporting the smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences that are made possible through strong local partnerships.

For guests, Britannia’s return offered the chance to experience Iceland’s dramatic landscapes, vibrant culture and renowned hospitality. For the team on board, it was equally significant, providing an opportunity to reconnect with valued partners and celebrate a shared commitment to creating unforgettable holidays.

Iceland continues to be an important destination for Carnival Corporation’s brands, and we remain committed to building positive, long-term relationships with stakeholders across the country. Led by Sandra Bratland, Director Destination Affairs, Carnival Norway, our engagement has expanded to include Members of Parliament, local politicians and other key stakeholders in Reykjavik, including hosting ship visits that help build understanding of our operations and the contribution cruising makes to local communities.

Together, these activities highlight the importance of working closely with our destination partners and stakeholders. By maintaining strong connections across the communities we visit, we can continue to deliver exceptional holidays for our guests while supporting the destinations that make those holidays possible.
