Earlier this month, a group of Deck and Hotel officers from P&O Cruises’ Iona visited the Carnival Maritime Fleet Operations Centre (FOC) in Hamburg for an in‑depth operational briefing and guided tour of the state‑of‑the‑art facility.
The FOC serves as Carnival Maritime’s 24/7 technical nerve centre, providing real‑time support to the fleet through continuous monitoring, voyage planning, safety oversight, and coordinated operational response.
During their visit, Iona’s officers were introduced to the advanced systems and processes that enable the centre to oversee ship performance and ensure safe, efficient operations across the company’s global fleet.
Members of the FOC team then travelled to Iona during her call at Hamburg’s new city‑centre pier—the first cross‑visit of its kind for P&O Cruises. The team toured the ship’s bridge and observed Iona’s cutting‑edge navigational and operational technologies in action, gaining firsthand insight into how the vessel’s bridge team manages day‑to‑day operations at sea.
This two‑way engagement marks an important step in strengthening collaboration between ship and shore teams. By deepening mutual understanding of each other’s roles, tools, and challenges, both groups can work together even more effectively to enhance safety, performance, and guest experience.
