Many of us spend a large amount of time at work, and deserve to feel that we’re included, respected, and that we belong. Why does this matter? If you’ve ever felt left out, excluded, ignored, unsafe, unwelcome or underappreciated, then you’ll most likely understand why inclusion is so important.
National Inclusion Week (NIW) takes place from 15 – 21 September and is a celebration dedicated to promoting inclusion and belonging in the workplace. Although at Carnival UK we believe inclusion matters all year round, NIW is a great opportunity to:
- Raise awareness and highlight the importance of understanding and addressing barriers faced by colleagues from underrepresented groups.
- Promote our inclusive policies, practices and ways of working.
- Recognise the benefits a diverse workforce and inclusive culture gives us like increased innovation, better decision making, improved engagement, and an environment where everyone feels valued and that they belong.
- Encourage people to talk about inclusion and get involved.
.
Our mission at Carnival UK is to ensure everyone, no matter their beliefs, background or preferences, feels welcome, respected and protected at work, with the resources and support they need to achieve their goals. And this has never been more important than it is right now.
How you can get involved…
Learn something new
Being curious and learning about each other is a great way to be more open-minded and play your part in helping everyone to feel respected and included. We have a great range of and activities to help build your knowledge, including nationality fact sheets to learn about each other’s cultural values – click here to find out more.
Try something new
With so many cultures onboard, there’s always a new dish to try in the mess. Or why not speak to someone you don’t normally work with and get to know about them? Who knows, you may learn a new skill, a greeting, hear new music, or enjoy a new game!
Take part in our quiz to WIN prizes!
Did you know that we have crew from 117 nationalities all around the world? Or that 20% of all our crew are women? Check out these facts and more and take part in our quiz to WIN £50/$50! We want everyone to get involved so there will be three winners onboard each ship. Enter the quiz here by Sunday 21 September.
Winners for each ship will be drawn week commencing 22 September and contacted by the onboard Welfare Officer.
Speak Up
Creating an environment where everyone feels respected and included is up to all of us. The easiest way you can do this is to look out for each other and speak up when you see something that isn’t right. If you see someone being unkind to another person, or you can see someone is uncomfortable in a situation, please Speak Up to your Line Manager, HR Manager or Head of Department.
Together we can create a more inclusive environment for everyone.
