One month on from Aurora’s refit, ships company are settling back into life at sea. We caught up with Welfare Officer, Clyde Vales who shared with us some of the activities team Aurora took part in during drydock.
From 5 – 21 April 2025, P&O Cruises Aurora entered dry dock in Rotterdam for a much-anticipated refit. The two-week overhaul focused on refreshing both technical systems and guest-facing areas, marking an important milestone in the ship’s ongoing journey. Read more about Aurora’s refit here.
A Time for Crew Connection
With no guests and the ship stationary, life on board was a little different to normal during refit. While there was still plenty to do to get the ship ready, time in dry dock also presented an opportunity for crew to spend time together and connect.
“The Welfare activities really brought us together. It was a blast, we needed that break and laughter” – Head Waiter
The line-up of activities included …
Refit Royale Disco
A high-energy event with lights, music, and dancing that brought the crew together for an unforgettable night.
Mobile Legends Tournament
Gamers from all departments competed head-to-head in this popular multiplayer battle arena game.
“Refit can be really hard work, but it also provides opportunity for bonding. Having a Mobile Legends Tournament was a great way to connect over common interests.” – Technical staff
Pool Tournament
A competition that saw crew members sharpening their billiard skills and bonding over cues and chalk.
“Every match was intense. With so many competitors, and so many people cheering and applauding, I felt like I was in a World Tournament” – Assistant Waiter
Karaoke Night
A crowd favorite, where voices soared, laughter echoed, and crew showed off their hidden (and not-so-hidden) vocal talents.
“It was not about who sang the best, but it was about everyone singing together and having fun together” – Galley Chef
Dry-dock Tour
An exclusive guided walk through the shipyard offered the ships company a behind-the-scenes look of Aurora’s hull and the work that was carried out.
“It was amazing to see the ship from a different perspective during the dry-dock tour. You don’t often get to see what the ship looks like from below” – Cabin Steward
Delicious Meals
Despite extensive maintenance work in the galley, the galley team and the Crew Mess team worked tirelessly to provide delicious meals each day, ensuring everyone was well-fed and motivated throughout dry dock.
Beyond the repairs and refit, what truly stood out was the unity among the ships company. Well done team Aurora for both a successful refit and showing team spirit throughout dry dock.
