Our ships sail the world’s incredible oceans, and we’re committed to our responsibility to help preserve and protect our marine environment. One of the ways we do this is by giving back to our local communities and the destinations we visit through our programme of beach cleans.

Most recently, colleagues from Ventura and Britannia organised beach cleans on the beautiful Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Barbados. We caught up with the teams to find out more…

Ventura in St. Kitts

On a recent call to St. Kitts, over 30 colleagues from Ventura teamed up to give back to the local community.

HR Manager, Orla McCreesh said:

“A huge thank you to our team members for taking part in the beach clean in St. Kitts. Together we cleared an incredible 270kg of rubbish – not an easy task on such a hot and sweaty morning! We’re very proud to have supported the local community and the Department of Agriculture on St. Kitts, who were incredibly grateful to everyone involved.”

Britannia in Barbados

To close out their Caribbean season, the team on Britannia organised a beach clean on Almond Beach in Barbados, clearing over 75kg of waste including two tyres.

Crew Welfare Officer, Ana Maria Ramirez Rodriguez said:

“We wanted to say thank you to the people of Barbados by giving back and helping to raise awareness of the importance of looking after the island’s beaches. It was an amazing experience for all of us, with local people stopping by to say thank you and telling us how we were inspiring them to do the same. Thank you to everyone who got involved.”

Britannia’s Environmental Officer, Sean Graham added:

“Voluntary work of this nature provides an immediate impact on the beaches we visit, helping to reduce the risks that waste pollution poses to marine flora and fauna. Cleaning up the beach was greatly fulfilling and brought team members from different departments together with a great sense of team spirit.”.

Well done Team Ventura and Team Britannia! This year we have more beach cleans planned across the fleet, so be sure to keep a look out and get involved.
