Our ships sail the world’s magnificent oceans and we’re committed to our responsibility to help preserve and protect our marine environment. One of the ways we do this is by partnering with our destinations and communities through our programme of coastal cleans.

From the idyllic Caribbean shores of St. Kitts to the stunning coastlines of Norway and Malta, plus several locations closer to home, we’ve already cleaned 174,500 meters squared of coastline this year. Earlier this month, colleagues from Queen Anne and Britannia added to this with two coastal cleans in Lisbon, bringing our total to 190,500 meters squared across ten clean-ups this year – a fantastic achievement.

As one of our most-visited ports, Lisbon is an incredibly important destination for both Cunard and P&O Cruises. In partnership with Blue Flag, one of the world’s most recognised voluntary awards for environmentally friendly beaches, the ships’ teams cleaned two stretches of beach in Algés. They cleared a combined total of 42kg of rubbish, while raising awareness about marine litter and the amount of disposable waste that ends up on beaches. Well done to everyone involved.

President of Carnival UK and P&O Cruises Paul Ludlow said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be the first cruise company to partner with Blue Flag on beach cleans in Portugal. This initiative is a reflection of our commitment to more sustainable tourism and our responsibility to help protect and preserve our vital marine ecosystems for future generations.”

We have more coastal cleans coming up in 2025, so watch this space for more information. In the meantime, find out more about our sustainability focus areas at carnivalsustainability.com.
