On July 3rd, Cunard partnered with The Prince’s Trust to host a Skills for Success workshop at Carnival House. The workshop was attended by a group of 12 young people aged 16 to 25, and forms part of a 12-week programme designed by The Prince’s Trust for individuals who are not currently employed or in education.

During the Skills for Success workshop, participants engaged in a Building Confidence Power Hour led by our Learning Team. They also had an interview skills session with our Resourcing Team, which included practical experience in ‘reverse interviewing’! The day concluded with a building tour and certificates, presented by Lee Powell.

Special thanks to everyone involved, including: Hollie Sexton, Vicky Newhouse, Jess Truman, Hannah Cross, Jo-Ann Gibbs, Jade Weeks, Izzie Stacey, Lee Powell, Amy Griffiths and Amy Mayhew!

Hollie Mcilwrick | Consultant, Learning, said:

“It was really rewarding to hear the group talk about their key takeaways from the Self-Confidence Power Hour session I ran. By the end of the session everyone was practicing their best ‘power poses’ ready for when they need their next confidence boost.”

Jonny Brason | Head of Service Delivery – South East  – The Prince’s Trust, said:

“Just wanted to express my thanks to you and your team for facilitating another amazing day at your offices. Feedback from our young people and colleagues has been incredibly positive, everyone had a great day!”

CUK Talent Acquisition Team, said:

“The Talent Acquisition Team was thrilled to host the Prince’s Trust cohort, supporting them with important employability skills such as the do’s and don’ts of creating a strong CV, making a positive impression, and developing comprehensive interview techniques. The cohort also participated in reverse interviewing, where they practiced asking interview questions to our team members, who assumed various ship and shore roles from Captains, to Nurses, to PAs, further developing their understanding of what makes a successful interview.”

World of Work Tours

Back in June, Cunard’s Brand Partnerships and Resourcing & Onboard teams delivered the first in a series of World of Work Tours for a group of young people from The Prince’s Trust on board Queen Mary 2.

The goal of the workshops is to provide young people taking part in the programme with the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue a career in the travel industry, highlighting the wide range of career opportunities; from customer service and hospitality, to engineering and deck roles.

We offer this innovative programme of employability workshops both on board our fleet and in Carnival House, where the next Skills for Success workshop will take place on 25 September, and the next World of Work Tour on Queen Victoria, on 19 November.

The Prince’s Trust also offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities. Keep an eye on the Weekly Update over the coming weeks for more information on how to sign up.
