Announcing Queen Anne’s Captains

Inger was born and grew up in the rugged, rocky, windswept Faroe Islands and moved to Denmark in 1989. While still at school, she took work as a stewardess on a cargo ship during the holidays to earn some money. This quickly revealed a deep-set loathing of cleaning which strongly suggested it was not her vocation!

With no particular career in mind and expecting to eventually settle down as a wife and mother, Inger joined DFDS Scandinavian Seaways as a cadet at the age of 16. She worked her way up through the ranks achieving her Master’s license in 1994 and spent the years between 1994 and 1997 on ferries, Ro-Ro ships and a dredger.

Feeling it was time for a change, Inger applied to move to the cruise industry, and was delighted to be accepted by Cunard, starting on Vistafjord and then travelling the world with Seabourn, Princess and P&O Cruises up to 2009.

After working with P&O Cruises for a period, and having successfully overseen the build of Azura, Inger was thrilled to be asked to return to Cunard and to join Queen Victoria in August 2010. She says that coming back to Cunard is like coming home. One of her main goals, apart from guests and crew welfare, is focusing on making sure each ship she is on operates as “green” as possible, using water saving measures and recycling.

Inger now lives in Svendborg, Denmark where she very much enjoys spending leisurely days in her lovely house and garden. In any spare time, she likes to play the saxophone, go to concerts and she enjoys time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Born in Hertfordshire, Dave started his seagoing career later than most Deck Officers at the age of 22, having completed a degree in Maritime Studies at Southampton Institute (now Solent University) and working as a graduate for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

In November 2000, having completed the initial college phase at Glasgow College of Maritime Studies, Dave stepped aboard his first ship, the Royal Princess, which later became Artemis with P&O Cruises.  In that first trip, much luckier than his cadet colleagues in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, Dave crossed the Equator three times, rounded Cape Horn no fewer than four times, sailed the Amazon River, transited the Panama Canal and crossed the Pacific to Australia and New Zealand.

Since that first epic trip, as both a Cadet and a junior Navigator, Dave sailed on many ships with P&O Princess Cruises including, Grand Princess, Golden Princess, Island Princess and Oriana.

In late 2006, Dave joined Queen Elizabeth 2 as a Senior Deck Officer until just before that great ships retirement when he moved to RMS Queen Mary 2.  Dave sailed on the iconic liner for five years rising from the rank of 2^nd Officer to Chief Officer.  As a newly promoted Deputy Captain in 2013, Dave spent a short time with P&O Cruises before being re-appointed to the Cunard Queens including a short trip back on Queen Mary 2.

For the last 6 years Dave has been sailing as Deputy Captain on both Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

In his spare time, Dave can be found enjoying outdoor pursuits as much as busy life will allow,  whether it be kayaking and Paddleboarding on the local Rivers Great Ouse and Nene, cycling around the countryside, walking in the British hills, or travelling the country in his self built campervan.  When not doing this he'll be found enjoying country village life or watching his much loved sport of Rugby Union.
