Through our Culture Essentials, we’re all committed to working together to make a positive impact to our culture; operating with integrity, trust and respect for each other, protecting our people and the places we touch. But what does this mean in the day to day? We’ve been speaking with colleagues to find out how our Culture Essentials are coming to life across the business.
We caught up with Andrew Wyres, VP IT Governance and Planning:
“We try to incorporate our Cultural Essentials into our day to day working as much as possible. In particular, we’ve done quite a bit of work to ensure Speak Up is alive. By empowering our teams to Speak Up, we’ve been listening and learning to review our core processes, improving service for the business and making things better for our people. We use this ongoing feedback to develop and inform our continued improvement programme.
There can be challenges with such a big team – there’s still room to improve how we communicate and help everyone understand the bigger picture, which may not always be that evident. For example, we received a lot of challenges with regards to the availability of bandwidth across the fleet. Working with our stakeholders and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) we were able to bring these issues to the fore and through collaborating and comparing with other brands, we’ve improved this and secured an increase to bandwidth which we are now rolling out across the fleet.”
That’s great to hear! And how are your team’s Culture Essentials in Practice commitments going?
“We’re exceptionally lucky to have a really engaged and highly respected Employee Experience Group (EEG) who have been working with the team to continue to try different approaches in our ways of working. If things don’t work, we’ve scrapped them and tried other methods and appear to be making good headway.
We know there is work that needs to be done to Respect and Protect our team. With the continued ramp up of activity in the business, it’s tricky to balance the workload without overloading our people. This is something we’re very conscious about and are looking to improve.”
