In August we were set the challenge to create our very own Food Waste shuffle video and you certainly didn’t disappoint!
So many of you came forward to be involved and literally hundreds of you took part (some more willing than others) to create our Carnival House Food Waste Shuffle – all to help raise awareness of separating food waste on board our ships.
So how did it turn out? Check it out for yourself…
(Don’t forget your headphones!)
Special thanks to our Cunard, P&O Cruises Marketing, Strategy, Finance, People, Princess Cruises, ELT, Maritime, Facilities, Planning & Facilities at Carnival House and of course CSSI who sent us their clips all the way from India!
We also had a fantastic response from across our fleet with every ship getting involved in creating their very own shuffle video – check them all out here:
(Warning if you watch them all the song WILL be stuck in your head for some time!)
What’s next?
All of our videos from across Carnival UK have been sent over to Miami, along with the other videos from across the Corporation to be judged – there will be prizes given to the best fleet and shore videos. We’ll keep you updated with the results, and of course – the prizes!
What about food waste at Carnival House?
While the intention was to raise awareness across our fleet it raises the obvious question about what we do here in Carnival House… Lee Kirby, Facilities and H&S Manager gave us the lowdown:
“Food waste within the Atrium Café and The Academy Development Kitchen, is generally made up of three components – food left on plates and put onto the plate return carousel by you, production waste (such as peelings bones and shells etc.) and Spoilage waste, all of which is separated from other waste and placed in a dedicated food waste stream.
This is taken offsite and turned into a valuable resource, by using anaerobic digestion to create green energy (you can see the big dome building where this happens from the office).
To ensure we are operating in a sustainable way all of our food waste is weighed and recorded so we can manage avoidable food waste with good management practice, effective storage, just in time ordering, menu planning, production planning and portion control.
Cardboard and glass are also segregated from general landfill to incorporate Carnival UK waste streams.”
