With our fleet of 11 ships sailing the world’s oceans, we’re committed to our responsibility of helping to preserve and protect our marine environment. One of the ways we do this is by giving back to our local communities and the destinations we visit through our programme of coastal cleans.

2025 has seen our biggest cleanup effort yet, with 22 coastal cleans across the world! Thanks to the hard work of 488 colleagues from 7 ships and 22 shoreside teams, volunteering 976 hours of time, we’ve cleaned up:

  • 365,880m2 of coastline – that’s over double the size of deck space on our entire fleet of ships!
  • 2,185kg of waste – that’s around the same weight as five of our ship’s grand pianos
  • 15,000+ items of waste, including plastic, wood, metal, glass, rubber, and more. Not to mention some interesting items such as tyres, carpet, a sunbed, and even a toilet cistern!

None of this would be possible without the support of our incredible teams, ship and shore. This included crew from Arcadia, Aurora, Azura, Britannia, Iona, Ventura, and Queen Victoria. And shoreside teams across the business including Culture, Performance & Reward, Cunard International Contact Centre, Medical, Maritime Business Planning, People Planning & Change, Insights, P&O Cruises Brand Development, Cunard Brand & Product, Cunard Trade, Training & Events, Supply Specialist, Digital, Technology, Finance, Cunard CRM, Newbuild, Princess, Crew Maritime G&A, Accounting, Home Port Operations, Port Services, and Itinerary Planning.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to support this vital initiative, and a special shout out to our Environmental Officers on board and shoreside Sustainability team for organising the coastal cleans, together with our valued partners.

Vice President of Sustainability Sophie Portlock said:

“I am immensely proud of the incredible success of our coastal clean programme. Seeing so many colleagues come together to clear rubbish from the coastlines of our local community and the destinations we visit is inspiring.

Not only are we making a tangible difference to communities, but we are also safeguarding the natural heritage of these beautiful places. This collective effort demonstrates our commitment to responsible travel and environmental stewardship.”

We have more coastal cleans coming up next year, so keep a look out for how you can get involved!
