Crew members on Azura recently took part in an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the Engine Room. The initiative was designed as an engagement activity, giving crew the opportunity to explore one of the ship’s most complex and essential operational areas.
The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with crew expressing appreciation and newfound respect for the engineering team.
Crew shared that the tour gave them a clearer understanding of engine operations, boosting their overall knowledge and confidence. Seeing the machinery, systems, and layout up close also helped them identify key risk areas such as, high-temperature zones, noise hazards and restricted spaces.
Crew gained deeper insight into the engine team’s daily responsibilities, helping strengthen cross-departmental understanding and collaboration. Seeing the critical systems firsthand made them feel more connected to the ship’s wider operations, sparking curiosity, pride, and a greater sense of belonging to the technical side of the vessel.

The tour sparked some key takeaways and lessons for the crew:
- Early reporting matters, unusual noises, temperature changes, electrical issues, water problems, or equipment malfunctions should be reported immediately to prevent escalations.
- Good housekeeping plays a major role reducing blockages, leaks, and electrical strain supports the engine team’s work and helps avoid unnecessary downtime.
- Responsible use of ship systems equipment misuse in areas such as laundry, galley, water systems, and AC controls can cause damage or increase workload; proper usage protects key assets.
- Small daily actions make a big impact , turning off unnecessary lights, reducing water waste, and reporting leaks all help maintain energy efficiency and reduce pressure on technical systems.
Crew expressed their gratitude to the engine department for taking the time to guide the tours and explain complex systems in such an accessible and engaging way.
