As it’s International Volunteer Day on Saturday 5 December, we’d like to share with you an opportunity to help out Cunard’s charity partner, The Prince’s Trust. We’ve also caught up with one of our colleagues who’s already been doing some great work volunteering for them.
How you can get involved
Digitally support a young person with their CV:
- Give up 30 minutes of your time to review a young person’s CV.
- Instructions and a CV will be sent to you via email and you will have five business days to review.
- Feedback to be given by word comment boxes on the young person’s CV.
- All CVs are anonymised before review, and your feedback will be sent back to the young person anonymously.
If you’re interested in this, please fill out this form and email your personal and/or work address to ptcorpvol@princes-trust.org.uk to be added to their prospects list.
You can also fill out the form and forward your email address to ptcorpvol@princes-trust.org.uk if you’d like to register your interest for future volunteering opportunities with The Prince’s Trust.
Here’s Cheryl Samson’s volunteering story
I had my first introduction to The Prince’s Trust last year when working in the shore team as a Recruitment and Onboarding Consultant for CUK. I formed part of the group who ran The Prince’s Trust Employment Workshop at CUK offices in Southampton. We supported a group of young people at a full day workshop giving them insight and helpful tips on working in the corporate world, CV writing and going for interviews. This day really set the scene for me with wanting to give back more and help others.
To see young individuals who’ve had various hardships in life put these aside and make every effort to learn more made me realise how we can all play a part in helping each other to grow.
When I was put on Furlough, I wanted to do something meaningful with my free time and volunteering for The Prince’s Trust was the first thing that came to mind. Having worked in Recruitment and HR for the last 12 years I wanted to be able to use this to help others in areas which we as Recruitment/HR Professionals often take for granted.

The Prince’s Trust has been amazing in allowing me the opportunity to get involved with a number of different ad-hoc volunteering tasks. I was asked to design and deliver a presentation to the young people via Microsoft Teams on ‘How to use Linkedin to maximise a job search’. I prepared and delivered a 45 minute session on this topic which was well received. In addition I’ve also supported with reviewing CVs and providing them with written feedback on these. More recently I was given the opportunity to be involved in conducting mock interviews via Zoom with about ten young people. All who took part in this exercise were eager to learn and did so well with facing their fears and attending the mock interviews (albeit virtual) as if it was a real scenario. I then provided written and verbal feedback to each of them which would assist them in their interview prep going forward.
The Prince’s Trust does such a great work in helping to set up a bright future for many young people who, despite having faced many challenges in their life, still strive towards finding their dream job. I feel so privileged to have been able to contribute to this in some way and hope to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
I would 100% recommend others sign up to volunteer for The Prince’s Trust charity; it’s all about sharing the knowledge and experience we have with others so that they too can have the tools to set themselves up for success in the job market.
