We know how important learning and personal development is in helping us successfully achieve our department, and individual, goals and targets.

We also know that finding the time to dedicate to learning, whilst keeping on top of the day job isn’t always easy. However, in light of the current situation with COVID-19, we know that for some of you this may present the opportunity to complete some learning activities or courses to help strengthen both your personal skills and knowledge.

For those of you that may not already be aware, there is an online social learning platform named ‘The Cove’ which is available to all Corporate Shipbuilding colleagues, wherever you are located. Want to find out more? Then keep reading to learn how to access The Cove, how to get the most from it and who to speak to if you need further support:

How do I access/log on to The Cove?

The Cove can be accessed here. Once you are on the page, we would recommend saving this as a favourite in your browser for easy access in the future.

If you have not yet created an account or you are unable to remember your username or password, click on the ‘retrieve login’ link on the login page and follow the steps on screen.

How do I use it?

We recognise that learning to use a new tool can sometimes be complicated and frustrating which is why there is a section on The Cove titled ‘The Cove – Getting Started’. We recommend that you take the time to read this section. Simply click on the ‘Library’ link, on the left hand side of the page once you log in, then click on ‘The Cove – Getting Started’ icon.  Click on each of the course titles and complete the activities provided.

What content is on The Cove and who is it for?

There is a range of different learning on The Cove which is delivered through multiple channels. Although some of the content is delivered via workshops (you can still sign-up for these for when they are running again), there is still a wealth of material which is delivered via elearning, videos and reading. Everyone is able to access all the material on the platform and we encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Some guidance has been provided on what groups the training may be most appropriate for however, don’t let this stop you if you see something you are interested in. Please see the list below:

  • Core – all employees
Personal Style, Personal Effectiveness, Dealing with difficult situations, Individual Development Planning
  • Advance – leadership development
My Leadership Style, Personal Communication Style, Forming Your Team, Developing Others, Wellbeing Development Workshops, Performance Leadership, Employee Relationship Workshops, Performance Improvement.
  • Aspire – leadership development
Resilience and Emotional Intelligence,  Leadership Influencing Styles, Personal Impact, Creating Team Impact, Managing Change, Coaching and Mentoring for Performance, Building Collaborations, Development Strategy and Stakeholder Management, Presenting with Impact.
  • Microsoft Quick Guides
  • Remote Working Support
  • Good Practice

Not only does The Cove hold the content for all of the above training courses, it also provides colleagues with the opportunity to share and comment on learning or resources that they have recently experienced. There is an interactive wall on The Cove which works in a similar way to a Linked In news feed – it provides you with the option to share thoughts and resources amongst everyone within your department. Sharing your learning experiences helps to develop others around you and provides a collaborative approach to learning.

I feel that I need more support in using the platform

If you would like more support on how to use The Cove and what you can access, please contact Lucy Davis, Senior HR Advisor.
