Mental health has never been more important as we recognise the pressures and challenges that our people find themselves under as we continue to navigate COVID-19.
Whether it’s spending long periods of time away from home, living in isolation, juggling child care and work or dealing with the anxiety that uncertainty and change can bring, we’re passionate about providing support to our people.
That’s why we’re focusing on training up our people to be mental health aware, enabling them to be able to identify the signs of mental health issues and support those who need it most.
We caught up with some of our first recruits who underwent the half day intensive training session via Zoom. Here’s what they had to say:
“For me the training was very insightful both personally & professionally. Though only a short session it was packed full of information that can be used practically. It was presented very well by a trainer who has experience with mental health issues which added to the knowledge shared with us.” Anna Thomas, HR Manager
Steven Strange, HR Manager said “I really enjoyed the training…I was cautious of how well it could be facilitated via Zoom but actually, it worked exceptionally well, and the physical distance between us really didn’t seem to make any difference at all. The trainer used the ‘breakout rooms’ function and facilitated group conversation so it felt very interactive”.
If you’re concerned about your mental health or would benefit from speaking to someone about any concerns you may have, you can speak to any of our mental health aware trained team.
Find out who they are here. We’ll continue to update the list as more people complete the training so please do keep checking back.
We’ll also be working with managers in the coming weeks to support them to have mental health conversations with their teams and clarify their critical role in supporting our people during this time.
(*Ship’s company should refer to their SWC notice board or speak with your on board Senior Management Team (SMT) to identify mental health awareness trained individuals on your ship).
Remember you can also contact Occupational Health on your on board Medical team if you’re concerned for your mental or physical health.

Great article and great to see Carnival UK have designated Mental Health First Aiders – how can I become one please?
I took an NHS mental health first aid training two day course in March 2018. Happy to participate in the Carnival training to try to help any way I can.
