Through our Culture Essentials, we’re all committed to working together to make a positive impact to our culture; operating with integrity, trust and respect for each other, protecting our people and the places we touch.
This is particularly key when it comes to our Ethics and Compliance Programme, so we caught up with Jane Cripps to find out more:
“As Ethics and Compliance Officer for Carnival UK, I lead a team that is part of the global Carnival Corporation Ethics and Compliance Department. My team’s role is to implement the requirements and activities of the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) Programme at Carnival UK and monitor the effectiveness of our compliance controls, helping identify ways to continuously learn and improve.
Simply put, compliance is about following the rules – but we go beyond this. We’re committed to a positive and just culture, promoting ethical behaviour and prioritising the right way to do things, not just focussing on what we do. This is where our Culture Essentials come into their own, and there are lots of ways we use them every day to direct our efforts and keep us on track.
They help us think about how we work together as a team and with other colleagues. Empowerment is key – we seek to create an environment where we have the right level of support, but also freedom to Speak Up and give things a try, working through our learnings if they don’t go to plan. This helps us develop and improve for next time and is a continuing effort. We have discussions about different ways to approach working together, and with the wider business, to ensure we’re as effective as possible and respect different ways of working.
Together with our Vision Statement, we continually use our Culture Essentials to sense check what we’re doing aligns to our top priorities, supporting Carnival UK to continue to make improvements and embrace learning opportunities. One of the key tools for monitoring how we’re doing is to Listen and Learn from each other when we Speak Up. We work very closely with our sister brands, collaborating and sharing our learnings to identify improvements that can help us all.
We’re always looking at ways we can Improve our processes and the way we communicate business messages and polices in a way that is accessible to all our colleagues. We’d love to know your thoughts on this and encourage you to Speak Up and tell us what you think! Just drop us a line at ethics@carnivalukgroup.com”
How are our Culture Essentials helping to support you and your team? We’d love to hear from you! Please email us if you’d like to take part and feature on The Insider.
