During our pause in operations, we had the opportunity to step back and think about how we can create an ideal organisational culture in our offices ashore and on board our ships. This is based on inclusion and the power of diversity, and built through our work, training, and how we interact with each other. When we get this right you’ll feel valued and that you belong, be supported to do your best work, have clear development opportunities, and will be recognised for both your achievements and your behaviours.
As we continue our cruising countdown and focus on creating unforgettable holiday happiness for our Guests once again, it’s more important than ever to check in on how we want to work together to make sure that we return to service stronger and better than before – doing this will help us create an ideal organisational culture together.
To support this culture ambition we’ve created Culture Essentials in Practice sessions for you to take part in as a team.
Culture Essentials in Practice
These sessions are designed as an opportunity to have open, honest and courageous conversations about how you work together at your best, and where you think there’s room to improve. They will help you to understand our Culture Essentials and behaviours, and how they’ll benefit everyone working at Carnival UK.
What to expect in your session:
1) Tune in: You’ll watch some videos as we bring to life the findings from the ‘Our World, Your Voice’ survey, and hear some of the stories behind the results.
2) Talk about: As a team you’ll chat about the stories and apply them to live examples in your team. The stories and their themes of trust, openness and care, have shaped our Culture Essentials, so you’ll think about how things might have been different, if we’d been living our Culture Essentials.
3) Think about: With more of an understanding of the Culture Essentials you’ll think about what improvements can be made in your team. You’ll set individual and team commitments and agree leadership expectations, all of which will help create an ideal organisational culture.
What happens next?
Your Employee Experience Groups (EEGs) will work with you to gather any feedback from these sessions, making sure that we follow up on our individual and team commitments, and continue to talk openly with our leaders about how we’re doing.
As our Culture Essentials in Practice cascade begins, here’s what your colleagues are talking about…
“It was really refreshing to take a step away from deadlines and to do lists, reflect back on why we’re here and check in on how we operate – not just as a business, but as individuals and teams. The workshop was well structured with some videos to convey our Culture Essentials and case studies to explore, as a group, how the cultural behaviours being witnessed landed for the characters involved. This was really relatable and sparked some great debate and self-reflection on the areas we felt we could focus on, and what practical steps we could take to be an even better team!
“I feel it’s really important to approach this session with a few principles in mind. Firstly our culture never rests or switches off – it’s the fabric of how we operate, think, feel and act. Secondly, every single one of us has the ability to influence and impact how our Culture Essentials shine through – be that individually or as part of the many teams you belong to.” Graeme Pointer, VP continuous Improvement, Carnival UK
“The feedback from the sessions I have participated has been universally positive. The open and honest conversations that spark off the short videos is fantastic, with some of the scenarios very relevant to how the teams are feeling”. Paul Wilkinson, VP, Financial Controller, Carnival UK
The Culture Essentials in Practice session will be run by your line manager – they are rolling out as a cascade so your manager will have been part of a session run by their line manager. If you haven’t already, you’ll be invited to a session by your line manager soon – this will be by 30 June.
