With only seven weeks to go until our first ship, Britannia, welcomes Guests back on board as part of our Return to Service programme, we thought we’d find out what life’s like on the ship and how we’re getting her ready from a technology point of view.

What’s life like on board?

We caught up with Sophie Wilsdon, Environmental Officer, to see what life’s like on board at the moment:

“At present we still only have about 200 working crew on board, with another 700 having joined in quarantine this week, so everyone is very busy doing extra jobs in preparation for return to service. This smaller team has allowed for closer bonds to be made – a one team approach.

Lots of crew coming out of quarantine haven’t been on a ship in over a year so there is lots of training going on as well. We have two fleet trainers to help with this and another two expected to join.

We don’t have any shore leave so we’re organising lots of activities on board to keep people entertained. These include quiz nights and exercise classes – check out some of our posters on the right…

The free WiFi is also great as it gives us a way to keep in touch with family back home and we’re all enjoying the longer evenings as we come into the spring.

The general feeling on board is excitement mixed with a little apprehension. Mostly we are looking forward to having our Guests onboard so we can get a sense of normality again. With lots of the ship unused we are looking forward to the Guests bringing the ship back to life!”
