This afternoon, a collective consultation for our shore-based teams on a new organisational structure and changes to ways of working came to an end.
Our organisational review was based on a ‘worst case’ planning assumption, where we may face many months of paused operations. So we have reprioritised and created a new understanding of what’s essential to the business and what’s not. We have preserved resources for the continued support of compliant, environmentally sound and safe operations, in order to build a stable platform from which both brands, and Carnival UK, can re-emerge in the future.
As a result of the changes we sadly say goodbye to approximately 435 colleagues today, who have played a crucial role in creating unforgettable holiday happiness. We wish them all the very best for the future.
For those that remain, either on reduced pay and hours or returning later in the year as part of a sabbatical, life at Carnival UK is going to look and feel very different; there will be many adjustments we need to make in terms of what we do and how we do it. In time, our business will recover and flourish – don’t think for a second that we’ve forgotten about the excitement that Iona, her sister ship, and Halifax have in store for us in the future. But it’s going to take time and we’re going to need to work hard, work smart and work together to get there.
A complete set of organisation structure charts will be available on The Bridge later this week, when Executive Leadership Team members have provided updates in their business areas. We expect that these changes will be reflected in myHR Portal by mid-July.
We want to take the opportunity to extend our thanks to everyone during what has been a tremendously difficult time. Despite the personal and professional challenges, our commitment to doing the right thing for our Guests and for our colleagues, against such a challenging backdrop, is evidence of just how strongly Carnival UK’s core values shine in each of us.
