Recently we shared our intention to begin a collective consultation around the changes we need to make to our organisation and ways of working, in order to sustain and protect our business for the future. That consultation began today, 11 May 2020, and will centre around two key proposals:

A new organisational structure

We’ve had to plan for the worst as our operations could be paused for many months. At the same time though we must preserve resources for the continued support of compliant, environmentally sound and safe operations, as well as allow enough flexibility to successfully re-emerge, when the time is right. The review of our existing structure has been comprehensive, having looked at roles and accountabilities across all departments and levels of the organisation. Coming out of this review we’re proposing a number of redundancies and sabbaticals.

Terms and conditions

All of us want our incredible business to exist in the future and we want to try to minimise the amount of redundancies and sabbaticals where possible. To set us up to achieve both of those goals as best we can, we’re requesting that everyone who remains in the business make some short-term sacrifices, up until 30 November, to preserve our finances, through a 20% (or more) reduction in hours, and therefore pay. This will hopefully give our people much-needed time to decompress and look after their own mental health and wellbeing as well.

Across the business, VPs and Senior Directors have met with their teams to explain proposed changes in their areas, and each individual will receive a letter outlining their personal impacts and possible outcomes.

Your Employee Representatives, listed here, will help us ensure an inclusive and transparent consultation process, having had their first formal consultation meeting today. Your Representative will now get in contact with you to get your ideas and feedback on the proposals, and to explain the different phases of the consultation.

The planned consultation end date is 30 June 2020.

We know that you’ll have lots of questions, many of which will be answered on our Q&A pages. Equally, many others may be more sensitive and personal so will be handled by your Elected Employee Representative.

We thank you again, in advance, for your continued commitment, courage and tenacity as we work through this difficult time together.
